Most of our users look to networking as an absolute necessity, tying their checkout computer to the backroom computer is a MUST. If and when you reach that point in your consignment business, CCE offers network setup at $70 per occurrence. Our highly qualified customer support will setup your network so you are able to have 2 or more workstations running at the same time. CCE has partnered with the Computer Peeps to provide you with network setup and assistance. With a combined 15 years of software, hardware and network experience, you can be assured any issues will be taken care of promptly! We have also provided information below for setting up your network.
- The consignment program must be downloaded directly from our website www.consignmentshopsoftware.com to each computer on the network and have a registration key. Each computer on the network must have the same version of the software. The program cannot be a copied version.
- You need a “qualified network technician”. Your QNT will need to know you would like a “peer to peer” (P2P) network. There are two basic P2P networks; a “wired” network connects the computers with a relatively thin cable, while the “wireless” doesn’t. Of the two, your QNT will most likely confirm the wired is the more reliable. We do not recommend a wireless network.
- Because P2P networking is a basic task for the QNT, you can ask for a flat or fixed rate to do the actual installation. Typically the P2P installation itself will be a two to three (max) hour job. We strongly recommend you contract the installation by way of a fixed fee; definitely not by the hour! The essentials of a P2P network are...
- Turn on sharing
- Map a drive on the server
- Have the Consignment icon on the second unit access the mapped drive
- Test the network. Following the few easy steps will let you know if your P2P network is working properly:
- On the “main” computer, add a new item to a test consignor;
- On the “second” computer, create an invoice and sell that item to a test buyer;
- On the main computer, issue a settlement to the consignor whose item you just sold on the second computer.
"Slowness" on Workstations
We've noticed that clients running Norton or McAfee security products have reported speed issues (e.g. program takes a long time to open, screens lock-up, etc.) Whenever Norton or McAfee are removed from the picture, workstations become more responsive. We recommend not using Norton or McAfee in conjunction with CCE products. For information regarding recommended antivirus products, please contact The Computer Peeps.
