Most all of our users look to networking as an absolute necessity, tying their checkout computer to the backroom computer is their MUST. We're writing this to offer assistance to you if and when you reach that point in your consignment business. Please note, Computer Consultants Exchange (CCE) does not set-up networks. In the event that your technician needs further assistance, CCE has a qualified technician available by appointment only at an hourly rate of $95/hr.
1. The consignment program must be downloaded directly from our website www.consignmentshopsoftware.com to each computer on the network and have a registration key. Each computer on the network must have the same version of the software. The program cannot be a copied version.
2. You need a "qualified network technician". Once you've found the QNT, you need to tell them what you need..., a "peer to peer" (P2P) network. There are two basic P2P networks; a "wired" network connects the computers with a relatively thin cable, while the "wireless" doesn't. Of the two, your QNT will most likely confirm the wired is the more reliable. We do not recommend a wireless network.
3. Because P2P networking is a basic task for the QNT, you can ask for a flat or fixed rate to do the actual installation. Typically, aside from the time and material of running the cable between computers, the P2P installation itself will most likely be between a two to three (max) hour job. We strongly recommend you contract the installation by way of a fixed fee; definitely not by the hour! The essentials of a P2P network are...
1. Share the program's installation directory with 'Full Control'
2. Have the Consignment icon on the second unit access the mapped drive
4. The next step is for you to test the network. Following the few easy steps will let you know if your P2P network is working properly:
1. On the "main"
computer, add a new item to a test
consignor;
2. On the “second”
computer, create an invoice and sell that
item to a test buyer;
3. Back on the main
computer, issue a settlement to the
consignor whose item you just sold on the
second computer.
What if problems come up in the P2P? How can we be of assistance? Most importantly, because of "we're here, you're there", our help is minimized, and as a result, our technical support does not include support of printers, network, hardware in general and other vendor software.
